The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with New York Business Development Corporation (NYBDC), has created "The Brooklyn Fund" to provide Brooklyn-based small business owners - and especially the borough's immigrant entrepreneurs - with access to business loans to help promote growth and expansion.
 
The $10 million fund offers small dollar loans up to $350,000 backed by U.S. government guarantees through the U.S. Small Business Administration's Community Advantage and Small Loan Advantage Programs. Interest rates will range from six to eight percent.
 
Additionally, as part of the overall fund, money has been set aside for the "Brooklyn Immigrant Fund," which is open to all foreign-born residents.
 
"I am proud that we could partner with the New York Business Development Corporation to create 'The Brooklyn Fund' aimed at the borough's mom-and-pop businesses owners," said Carlo A. Scissura, President &amp; CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "As part of the 'Brooklyn Fund,' immigrant entrepreneurs can take advantage of a loan program called the 'Brooklyn Immigrant Fund.' I can't think of a better way to help the borough's immigrant business owners than with the chance to attain low-interest loans. Whatever vehicles we can put forth to help these businesses will benefit the economic climate of Brooklyn and our city. These business owners will hire more people, helping bring down unemployment, and ensuring that Brooklyn - and New York City - remain a wonderful place to do business."

Named One of Five Finalists of Competition THRIVE, Earns $25,000 to Pilot Program to Immigrant Businesses</title><description>The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce that the Brooklyn Alliance, Inc., the 501(c) 3 nonprofit economic development arm of the Chamber, was named a finalist by the New York City Economic Development Corp. in a contest that spotlights the best programs for immigrant business owners.
 
The program - named "Go Digital" - is a boot camp program aimed at giving immigrant firms immediate access to experts and tools to establish an online presence. The pilot phase is broken into three components: 
 
-- Community Identification: Identify and engage two communities: Arab- Americans (Bay Ridge) and Russian-American (Sheepshead Bay). 
 
-- Go! Digital Boot Camp: 4 week, 15 hour intensive hands-on course in their native language. 
 
-- Shop Brooklyn: Group targeted immigrant communities with flags, translation pages in order to drive tourism traffic to immigrant communities.
 
As a finalist, the Brooklyn Alliance will be awarded seed funding of $25,000 to pilot their program for six months and create a business plan. After those six months, a grand prize winner will be chosen to receive funding of $100,000 and services to further promote the program.

My name is Carlo Scissura and I am the President and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber is a 95-year-old borough-wide organization with nearly 1,200 member businesses.  Our mission is to support and advocate for a healthy and robust business environment throughout Brooklyn.  

I am here to wholeheartedly support the proposed project for South Site located at 22 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn’s Cultural District.  This project is one of those opportunities where a public-private partnership will transform what is currently an underused parking lot into a beautiful public plaza – a place residents and visitors can enjoy on a daily basis – along an ever-changing Flatbush Avenue. 

The construction of a 32-story apartment building would provide much-needed affordable housing to the area.  As part of the plan, 20% of the estimated 300 apartment will be made affordable, with a preference given to people already living in the neighborhood. It is therefore imperative that the City allow for the use of special permits to amend the zoning map in order for this work to be done. 

This project is also great for business.  Not only will it create a 10,000-square-foot public plaza and affordable housing units, it will also be a boom for mom-and-pop businesses and other stores in the area.  It will also help attract new businesses to the neighborhood and grow an area that is already one of the hottest in the New York.  During construction, an overall goal has been set where 32% participation by Minority/Women-owned businesses and 20% local businesses would be involved.  That is also something we also applaud. 

This plan will also bring art and entertainment to a district that is growing every day and already includes the Brooklyn Academy of Music and Barclays Center.  We unequivocally support this plan, which also calls for the construction of three new theaters – which will be operated by BAM – and a new, 16,500-square-foot local branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.  

Also, the creation of a rehearsal space for local arts groups will go a long way in helping the next generation of creative people who call the borough home live out their dreams, fostering creativity and making Brooklyn a focal points for arts and culture.  And most importantly, this will keep this talent in Brooklyn! 

The skyline of Downtown Brooklyn is quickly changing.  With these changes comes the chance to make Brooklyn an even bigger and better destination and a place for families to live and work. TD Bank Group and the TD Charitable Foundation donated $200,000 to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in November 2012 to help start the Citywide Neighborhood Entrepreneurship Project (NEP), which is aimed at addressing the needs of businesses through a series of programs that includes providing direct commercial revitalization services to shopping districts throughout New York City. 
 
The project will help with merchant organizing, commercial beautification, shop local initiatives, and attracting businesses to low and middle income areas. Services also include programs aimed at direct referrals for small business services such as financing, accounting, hiring, and attaining permits. 
 
The program comes in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, a time where many businesses across the five boroughs suffered devastating losses. This is the first citywide program that addresses needs of small businesses within low income neighborhoods. 
 
"TD is proud to support local small businesses through the Citywide Neighborhood Entrepreneurship Project, especially as the community recovers from Hurricane Sandy," said Peter Meyer, Market President for TD Bank. "We recognize the impact these donations can have, and our goal is to build successful partnerships that benefit our customers and their communities."

To kick-off the program, the five Chambers will focus on the following areas:

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, through its 501c3 not for profit, the Brooklyn Alliance, will work with and provide direct technical assistance to assist NYC's other Chambers of Commerce (Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island) to develop and establish commercial revitalization programs within their respective Chamber foundations.

In addition, the NEP will seek to work directly with Local Development Corporations, Business Improvement Districts, and existing merchant groups to provide access to resources that help them gain visibility, expand offerings, and solidify operations. The Brooklyn Alliance already convenes these groups to meet on a quarterly basis to provide up-to-date information on market issues and conditions, and introduce important topics, such as helping merchants benefit from new tourism spending and attracting new businesses to the community.

The Brooklyn "Food Chain" - starting with the food manufacturing and wholesale distribution, and including grocery stores, specialty stores, restaurants, and coffee shops - accounts for 12.5% of the borough's 472,000 private sector jobs, according to the Winter 2012 Brooklyn Labor Market Review.
 
Food accounts for one out of six of the 49,000 businesses in Brooklyn - with nearly 59,000 people employed by 7,800 businesses. In 2011, Brooklyn's food manufacturing sector had an estimated annual total output of $2.2 billion.
 
If you consider the borough's food manufacturing as a single sector, its 2011 job numbers were surpassed only by health care (108,000). The "Food Chain" tops the 51,000 jobs in social assistance and the 44,000 jobs in non-food retail stores. Total wages in the Brooklyn food chain sector came to $1.46 billion in 2011.
 
Here are the report's other findings:
 
-- About half (2,800) of the borough's food manufacturing employment is in bakeries. This category includes retail bakeries that bake their own goods on site since baking is considered a manufacturing process.
 
-- Brooklyn bakeries average about 11 employees per business with an average wage of $24,200. All other Brooklyn food manufacturers have an average of 25 workers with those workers making an average of $45,300 per year.
 
-- There are 377 Brooklyn food manufacturing businesses who do not report any employees - about a third more than a decade ago. These include new start-up operations and one-person specialty food businesses.
 
-- Food wholesaling has flourished in recent years - adding nearly 1,000 workers over the past five years. That has been led by an increase of 800 workers in beer, wine, and distilling beverage wholesaling.
 
"Brooklyn is home to all kinds of food and beverage makers - from large companies, to 'mom and pop' shops, to one-person operations - and this particular sector will only grow as the borough attracts more and more entrepreneurs," said Carlo A. Scissura, President &amp; CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "These figures show once again that Brooklyn is fast becoming the center of the food and beverage manufacturing universe that is creating new jobs in the process. If people keep eating, Brooklyn will continue serving it up!" 
 
"Food manufacturing is a big business in Brooklyn comprised mainly of small firms purchasing over a half-billion dollars in goods and services from Brooklyn-based suppliers and generating $463 million in value-added," noted James Parrott, Deputy Director and Chief Economist of the Fiscal Policy Institute.
 
Parrott's organization prepares the quarterly Brooklyn Labor Market Review for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
 
Parrott also stated that nearly a quarter of the output of Brooklyn food and beverage manufacturers is sold outside of the borough, with an estimated $134 million exported outside of the United States.

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce held its Winter Gala -- featuring a movie premiere-theme party that included a red carpet - this evening at El Caribe Country Club in Mill Basin to honor the borough's burgeoning film and television industry. The event was attended by a sellout crowd of 500 people, setting a record for a Brooklyn Chamber Winter Gala.  
 
The evening featured Brooklyn's most influential members of the film and television industry. The honorees included the Brooklyn College Graduate School of Cinema, Gina and Tony Argento of Broadway Stages, David and Douglas Steiner of Steiner Studios, and Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of NYC's Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment.
 
"Hollywood has nothing on Brooklyn. I think we proved that with tonight's event," said Carlo A. Scissura, President &amp; CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "Our Winter Gala proved that the glitz and glamour of the film and television industry is right here in Brooklyn. The people we honored have made Brooklyn the top destination for film and television studios. I thank them all for their accomplishments and for creating jobs in the borough."  
 
"It's an honor for the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment to be recognized by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce," said Commissioner Oliver. "Brooklyn has a rich cinematic history dating back to the early movie studios based here, and its iconic locations, and unique personalities have long attracted filmmakers. Now Brooklyn is more popular than ever, home to expanding production facilities like Steiner Studios and Broadway Stages as well as a slew of episodic TV shows. All of this activity means jobs for New Yorkers and support for our local businesses, and we couldn't be more proud."  
 
At the same time, Brooklyn College and the Mayor's Office of Media &amp; Entertainment announced that the City of New York will make a substantial investment in the Brooklyn College Graduate School of Cinema, which is expected to welcome its first class of students in the fall of 2014. The school will be located at Steiner Studios - the largest soundstage and production facility on the East Coast, making Brooklyn College the only graduate school of cinema in the country to be integrated into a working film lot. 
 
Scissura capped off the night by honoring outgoing Chamber Chair Peter M. Meyer of TD Bank, thanking him for his five years of service.
 
"The testament of true leadership is to leave something in better shape than when you found it," Scissura said. "Peter's commitment has put the Brooklyn Chamber on the right course and allowed us to build on a strong foundation."
 
In addition, the Chamber announced it is moving its offices from its current location at 25 Elm Place to 335 Adams Street near the Brooklyn Marriott. The Chamber is expected to move in the spring of 2013. The Chamber would like to thank Muss Development for helping make the move possible.

For months New York City business executives and civic leaders have fretted about a possible change in the direction of local government after one of their biggest boosters, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, leaves office at the end of 2013.

Now, one notable group, the Rockefeller Foundation, has decided it cannot sit on the sidelines.

The foundation announced on Wednesday that it would award the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce a $100,000 grant to come up with ways to compel the candidates in next year’s race for mayor to pay more attention to business issues.

The chamber will consider asking the candidates to sign a “bill of rights” for small businesses, based on an assessment of employers’ needs. It will also discuss hosting Democratic and Republican campaign forums at which candidates would be asked to address business concerns.

The Rockefeller Foundation, a nonprofit group, does not engage in overt political activity, but it hopes the grant to the Chamber of Commerce will draw attention to business issues and help influence the discussion in a wide-open mayor’s contest that has been dominated, thus far, by Democrats who have not always been friendly to business. The tone of the race could also change if Joseph J. Lhota, the chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, steps into the campaign as a Republican.

Neither the foundation nor the chamber could recall another instance in which a major institution had offered a grant aimed at influencing a municipal election.

“With this transition, and this change in administration, it’s important to us that whoever is coming is in active dialogue with the small-business community,” said Edwin Torres, an associate director at the foundation who credited the Bloomberg administration with doing a “very good job” in the areas of small-business initiatives and job-training opportunities for poor and vulnerable New Yorkers.

Carlo A. Scissura, president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, said the grant recognized “a need to get business issues at the forefront of the 2013 election,” along with other likely campaign issues like education and the Police Department’s stop-and-frisk policy. “People want to know the positions of these candidates,” he said.

Mr. Scissura added, “As we are out there talking to people, there is a fear — not just from the business community at the Rockefeller level, but really among the mom-and-pop stores — regarding what type of regulations, what type of fees, what type of burdens might be placed on businesses in the next administration.”

The Rockefeller Foundation has long had a strong relationship with the Bloomberg administration, helping to finance initiatives on poverty, climate change, volunteerism and infrastructure, among others. The foundation’s chief operating officer, Peter J. Madonia, was Mr. Bloomberg’s chief of staff during the mayor’s first term.

Mr. Torres said the foundation began mulling the idea of getting involved with the race to replace Mr. Bloomberg more than a year ago. The foundation then approached the chamber, he said.

The program will be handled by the chamber’s nonprofit arm, Brooklyn Alliance, and will run through January 2014, when the 109th mayor of New York takes office.

Today&amp;rsquo;s announcement represents a significant step towards meeting that goal. The Administration will report on progress on these initiatives every 90 days from now until the end of 2013. Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert K. Steel made the announcement at a breakfast forum hosted by the Association for a Better New York. &lt;br /&gt;

This new initiative is multi-faceted and far-reaching, and it will go a long way toward making sure City government gets out of the way of entrepreneurs who are trying to create jobs and grow our economy.&amp;rdquo; &lt;br /&gt;

&amp;ldquo;Today&amp;rsquo;s announcement brings the city a giant step closer to completing the Council&amp;rsquo;s NYC Business Link Initiative, our comprehensive plan to remove regulatory hurdles and facilitate the growth of small businesses throughout the five boroughs,&amp;rdquo; said City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn. &amp;ldquo;I believe that the Mayor&amp;rsquo;s new Business Customer Service Initiative, coupled with Council initiatives such as the New Business Acceleration Team, is imperative to continuing to strengthen this important sector of our local economy. I would like to congratulate Tokumbo Shobowale on his new role as the City&amp;rsquo;s first Chief Business Operations Officer, and I look forward to working closely with him, Mayor Bloomberg, and Deputy Mayor Steel on current and future initiatives to make this city the most business-friendly city in the country.&amp;rdquo; &lt;br /&gt;

Applying Online &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
We will make it possible for businesses to apply online for the necessary licenses, permits and other credentials they need to open their doors and operate legally and safely. The City issues 300 business-related licenses and permits &amp;ndash; but less than a quarter of them can be applied for online. In 2012, a business owner shouldn&amp;rsquo;t have to leave his or her business in the middle of the day to visit an office and fill out a paper application. We know that small business owners are some of the busiest people on the planet and that their time is valuable. Accordingly, we are working hard to get all applications online. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
By the end of 2012 we will ensure that all city applications are available online for download, so that business owners won&amp;rsquo;t ever have to come in to a city office to pick them up &lt;br /&gt;
Within one year we will increase by more than 35 percent the volume of applications and renewals that can be submitted online, including some of the most frequently used applications like those for Food Service Establishment licenses and renewals of Taxi Medallions &lt;br /&gt;
By the end of the Administration we will ensure that 80 percent of new business applications and renewals are possible online &lt;br /&gt;
Paying Online &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Similarly, we will make it possible for businesses to pay necessary license, permit and other fees online, including taxes. Today business can pay some fees online, but not fees for many critical agencies for businesses. They are still forced to come to city offices during certain hours, or to pay someone to come on their behalf, and to bring cashiers or other checks that they may not use to conduct business with anyone else. We are changing this. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Starting now customers of the NYC Development Hub will be able to pay for their plan inspection and approvals online. So not only will businesses and their architects be able to submit their plans electronically, schedule appointments quickly and not have to come in to have their building plans reviewed, they will not have to set foot inside a city office period because they will be able to pay remotely, too &lt;br /&gt;
By the end of 2012 business will also have a better way to pay online for property taxes, business and excise taxes and ECB violations &lt;br /&gt;
Within one year businesses will be able to pay for all license renewals online &lt;br /&gt;
Checking Status Online &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Entrepreneurs and business owners seek insight into the status of their applications and their transactions with government. We will make the process of opening a business clearer and more predictable by conveying status of applications, plans, and inspections including: &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Over the next year, business owners will be able to visit nyc.gov to check several statuses including licenses being processed, whether plan exams have passed, dates of scheduled inspections, whether inspections have been passed, and whether permits have been issues. &lt;br /&gt;
By the end of this calendar year, businesses taking advantage of our New Business Acceleration Team to open their restaurants will be able to follow the status of their applications, inspections and plan reviews online. &lt;br /&gt;
Making Information Available &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The City now provides a wealth of information about government requirements for starting and operating a business through NYC Business Express, 311 online, and other pages on NYC.gov. For many businesses, however, there is too much information and is often difficult to find what they need, interpret it and understand how all of the pieces fit together. We will make the presentation of this information clearer and simpler than ever including: &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Providing new two-page guides that depict a soup-to-nuts road map and easy-to-understand information about how to open different types of businesses. The first of these guides will be available by August 2012. &lt;br /&gt;
Offering instruction and assistance in different media, such as piloting short online how-to videos that show entrepreneurs the ins and outs of how to comply with important public safety requirements. &lt;br /&gt;
Regulatory Environment &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
These initiatives build on the continuing work of the Regulatory Review Panel, a joint initiative of the Bloomberg Administration and the City Council, which has identified ways to make New York City more supportive of small businesses. As part of the initiative we will also streamline our regulatory processes and identify improvements that lighten the administrative burden upon businesses and make it easier for them to comply with the law, while at the same time maintaining our commitment to safety. We will strive to shorten the time between when a business applies for permission to conduct business and when the city completes the inspection or approval process. This is particularly the case for processes or approvals that involve multiple agencies. Initiatives will include:&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;-Improving the process for &amp;ldquo;Place of Assembly&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash; businesses in which 75 or more people gather indoors &amp;ndash; permits. We are working to reduce the number of steps in this process by more than 20 percent, eliminating unnecessary steps and an unnecessary handoff between city agencies. We will reduce the time necessary for the process and more importantly to reduce the variability of the processes so that entrepreneurs can better plan their business investments.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;-Continuing improvements to the sidewalk caf&amp;eacute; approval process. Since 2003 we have reduced the number of agencies involved in this process from six to three, and cut the approval processing time roughly in half. Facilitated by these changes, the number of sidewalk cafes has grown from 700 to 1100. We would like to work with the City Council to make additional improvements, so that only two agencies are involved &amp;ndash; only one agency if the sidewalk caf&amp;eacute; is unenclosed &amp;ndash; and to further streamline and shorten the process so responsible businesses don&amp;rsquo;t have to jump through unnecessary hoops.&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
Shobowale is the Chief of Staff to Deputy Mayor Steel. In this capacity he coordinates economic policy development for the Office of the Mayor, as well as oversight of more than a dozen agencies&amp;mdash;including those responsible for affordable housing financing, construction and preservation; city planning; taxation and finance; transportation; business services and workforce development; business attraction and retention; and economic development broadly across the five boroughs of New York City. Previously Tokumbo was Chief Operating Officer of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the City&amp;rsquo;s vehicle for stimulating investment across industry sectors and broadening the City&amp;rsquo;s tax and employment base by meeting the needs of businesses large and small. He was one of the architects of the Applied Sciences project along with several of the Mayor&amp;rsquo;s other signature economic development priorities. Before joining NYCEDC, Tokumbo was a strategy consultant for McKinsey &amp;amp; Company and also for Dalberg Development, a firm that works to strengthen global public institutions. Previously, he was Honduras program director for a not-for-profit organization facilitating rural enterprise and energy development. He serves on the boards of the Excellence Boys and Excellence Girls Charter Schools, and is the founding chair of the board of the Leadership Prep Charter Schools in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brownsville, and Ocean Hill Brooklyn. Tokumbo earned an A.B. from Stanford University, an M.A. from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management, earning each degree with academic distinction. As the voice of the Brooklyn business community, the Chamber has always been devoted to assisting Brooklyn businesses in finding qualified candidates for employment, and matching Brooklynites with suitable employment opportunities. &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;Good Help provides businesses with access to a wide-ranging and diverse labor pool through one central point of access. The Chamber acts as a unique workforce intermediary by brokering relationships between businesses and job training and community groups throughout the borough. In this broker role, the Chamber manages a trusted relationship with each business by providing upfront consulting to understand their needs, and then communicates the job openings to the workforce development field.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said, &amp;ldquo;The re-launch of the Good Help program is a real &amp;lsquo;win-win&amp;rsquo; for Brooklynites needing jobs and for the businesses looking to hire them. Good Help provides a centralized system for employers to find the best and the brightest to fill hundreds of positions at a time when jobs are so desperately needed&amp;mdash;and best of all, it&amp;rsquo;s free. They say it&amp;rsquo;s hard to find good help these days, but bravo to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the Good Help initiative for making it a lot easier.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;Prospective candidates are received through network partners including non-profits, employment and training agencies, proprietary schools, colleges, NYC public programs, community and faith based organizations, elected officials, etc. Candidates are carefully screened to determine their qualifications and only the individuals matching the specific job description are referred to the business for consideration. There are more than 200 organizations within the Chamber&amp;rsquo;s partner network that refer jobseekers for openings at Brooklyn businesses.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;NYS Assemblyman and head of the Brooklyn Assembly Delegation Joe Lentol said, &amp;ldquo;I know I speak for my colleagues in the Brooklyn Assembly delegation and throughout the Borough when I say how wonderful it is to see Good Help back up and running again.&amp;nbsp; The program&amp;rsquo;s ability to match Brooklyn job seekers with Brooklyn businesses in need of qualified employees will no doubt have a positive impact on our local economy, and we are proud to help support this valuable initiative.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;NYC Councilman and Finance Chair Domenic M. Recchia Jr. said,&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;&amp;ldquo;Good Help is a whip-smart, business-driven initiative that gets Brookylnites working. On behalf of my colleagues at the City Council, I am proud to support this program for it provides the essential financial tools to ensure that the economic ecology of New York City is rife with opportunity now and in the years to come.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/span&gt; &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;From 1998 until the program was suspended in 2010, more than 900 businesses worked with the Chamber to staff, access tax credits, or consult on HR issues. Nearly 1,500 placements were made, and an estimated 10,000 jobseekers were screened for jobs. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;In just over two months since the program&amp;rsquo;s re-launch, Good Help has received an overwhelming response from the community, partnering with more than 20 businesses on nearly 50 job openings. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 14px;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Michelle de la Uz &lt;/b&gt;has over twenty years experience in public and community service and became Executive Director of Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) in January 2004, after serving as Co-Chair of FAC&amp;rsquo;s Board of Directors. Michelle oversees the organization&amp;rsquo;s mission of advancing economic and social justice and comprehensive programs serving more than 5,000 low and moderate income people directly through Fifth Avenue Committee and its non housing affiliates which have combined budgets of more than $10 million, real estate assets of over $100 million and a housing development pipeline of nearly 1,000 units representing total development costs of more than $400 million.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 14px;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #221e1f; font-size: 14px;"&gt;As Senior Vice President at Toll Brothers City Living, &lt;b&gt;David Von Spreckelsen&lt;/b&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 14px;"&gt;oversees acquisition and development activities in the five boroughs of New York City and Nassau and Suffolk Counties in Long Island. His responsibilities include everything from identifying and acquiring sites through managing the design and construction of the buildings and ultimately to marketing and selling the residences. David is currently overseeing seven Toll Brothers City Living projects in various stages of development in Manhattan and Brooklyn. In addition to projects that have already been completed, this totals more than 1,100 condominium units and nearly $1 billion in total development cost since 2004.&lt;/span&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Scissura is a life-long resident of Brooklyn.&amp;nbsp; Prior to joining the Brooklyn Borough President in 2008&amp;mdash;first as General Counsel and then as Chief of Staff&amp;mdash;Carlo established a law firm in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, specializing in real estate transactions, estate planning and corporate affairs.&amp;nbsp; He is a former member of Brooklyn Community School Board 20 and has served on the Board of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and the Brooklyn Public Library. &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Carlo also was a member of the New York City Charter Review Commission, served on Brooklyn&amp;rsquo;s Community Board 11, and was the Vice President of the Federation of Italian American Organizations.&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
