|  | Many people are under the impression that Brooklyn is a dangerous crime area. However, statistics reveal otherwise:
- FBI data shows that Brooklyn is among the safest 15 percent of the 191 major cities in the U.S.
- Brooklyn’s crime rate is comparable to that of Stamford, Connecticut, and significantly lower than other business locations such as Jersey City, Orlando, Tampa and Atlanta
- The crime rate in Brooklyn is lower than that in Midtown Manhattan
- Crime was down 8.1 percent in 2003 in the 75th Precinct in East New York, Brooklyn
- In North Brooklyn alone, since 1993 murder is down 75% and robbery is down 70%. In total, crime has decreased by 62% (NYPD statistic)
