  Industrial/Manufacturing Districts
  • Brooklyn’s 2,500 manufacturing firms range from small- and mid-size businesses in industries such as apparel, furniture, printing, food and others
  • Brooklyn's industrial/manufacturing districts are served by several major highways and are minutes from John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • Firms can transport their products on one of the more than 300 ships that dock each year at the Red Hook Terminal
  • Brooklyn's 3,000 wholesale operations offer an extensive selection of warehouse facilities
  • Brooklyn’s labor force includes more than 200,000 craftsmen, operatives, machine operators and other blue collar workers
  • When it comes to manufacturing space, you can find everything from one-story buildings to multi-story lofts in 77 million square feet of industrial space in addition to vacant land
  • When you relocate to Brooklyn, you’ll benefit from city and state incentives that will dramatically reduce your cost of doing business
  • The end result will be an occupancy cost that is less than half what you’d pay in Manhattan and is competitive with suburban locations that provide far less:
    • Brooklyn Mills: a 27,000-square-foot incubator for small design-intensive apparel firms is located in Sunset Park. The facility provides tenants with shared machinery and equipment, as well as assistance with financing, marketing and exporting
    • Sunset Park In-Place Industrial Park: a complex covering 650 acres in southwest Brooklyn, offers a variety of sizes and types of industrial space. The park is a New York State Economic Development Zone (EDZ), making firms eligible for special financial incentives and low-cost financing
    • East Brooklyn In-Place Industrial Park: this park covers 120 acres in East Brooklyn with available space ranging from 5,000 to more than 100,000 square feet as well as vacant land. The park is in a New York State Economic Development Zone
    • East Williamsburg In-Place Industrial Park: this 650-acre park has space ranging from 1,000 to 100,000 square feet in a mix of single-storied structures and multi-level lofts. The park is a New York State Economic Development Zone
    • Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center: this 400,000 square-foot small business complex of eight buildings provides loft space and business services to custom woodworkers, artisans, and painters
    • Brooklyn Army Terminal: this three million square-foot, 97-acre industrial facility recently received an $87 million renovation. The buildings have ample loading docks, storage, parking, and on-site day care service
    • Brooklyn Navy Yard: this 261-acre industrial park with 4.3 million square feet has space for firms of all sizes. The Navy Yard includes a Foreign Trade Zone, giving businesses that import goods the opportunity to reduce or eliminate customs duties. The Navy Yard is also a New York State Economic Development Zone
