The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2008 Building Brooklyn Awards™ (BBA) starting today, Jan. 7, 2008. This is the 8th edition of this annual real estate industry event which recognizes recently completed construction and renovation projects that enrich Brooklyn’s neighborhoods and economy.
“Every year we see an increasing number of submissions to the Brooklyn Chamber’s Building Brooklyn Awards. Given the record-breaking number of construction projects in 2007, we expect to see a surge in this year’s submission numbers as well,” said Carl Hum, president & CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. “We also expect this year’s submissions will focus on sustainability and environmentally aware projects.”
Applicants may download the 2008 BBA nomination form at http://www.buildingbrooklynawards.com/, where submission categories are announced.
Eligible projects should have received a Certificate of Occupancy or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy on or prior to Dec. 31, 2007. Projects nominated for last year’s Building Brooklyn Awards that were not chosen may be re-submitted for consideration. All nominations must be postmarked or received at the Brooklyn Chamber’s office no later than Friday, Feb. 15, 2008.
This spring a panel of architects, city planners, economic development experts and business leaders will convene to select the 2008 award recipients. The Building Brooklyn Awards ceremony and cocktail reception will take place later in the summer at a location to be determined.
Fifteen construction projects from across the borough were recognized during last year’s ceremony held for the first time at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The 2007 event attracted more than 400 attendees, including real estate, design and construction professionals. Building Brooklyn Awards, which also celebrates the work of individuals who have made significant contributions to the business conditions and economic climate of Brooklyn, honored Joshua Muss, principal of Muss Development LLC, and Andrew Kimball, president & CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, at the 2007 event.
