  Black History Month Celebration

In February, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and its Minority and Women Business Owners (MWBO) Committee, present its annual Black History Month Celebration.  Every year at this networking and cocktail reception, the Chamber honors African Americans who have made significant contributions to their community, the borough or the city.

Former Assemblyman William F. Boyland was the honoree at the 2003 Black History Month Celebration.  In 2004, the Chamber recognized three honorees for the first time: Ludlow Beckett of Yu Interiors, Laura Goodwin of The Training Academy, and Pauline Barfield of Barfield Public Relations.

The 2005 event was held at Akwaaba Mansion in historic Bedford-Stuyvesant where Samuel Dunston, National Allotment Insurance Agency and Pamela Green, The Society for the Preservation of Weeksville and Bedford-Stuyvesant History were honored.  In 2006, the honorees were Shakoor and Marissa Watson, Shakoor's Sweet Tooth, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado,  SUNY Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center and Honorable Edolphus Towns, U.S. House of Representatives.

The Chamber returned to Akwaaba Mansion on Feb. 27, 2007 to honor Albert C. Wiltshire, Vice President of Government Relations, KeySpan Energy Corporation and Bridge Street Development Corporation.
