When did you start your business? What do you do?
Shakoor's Sweet Tooth is primarily a specialty bakery shop but we have an extensive catering and take-out menu, as well. We originally started from our home in 1999, using a $10 hand-held mixer. Due to the demand for our quality products, we had to find a larger space to work from and in December of 2000, we opened at our first location. Since then, we've had several other stores in Bedford Stuyvesant, but are now settled at our current location on Marcus Garvey Boulevard.
One of our "best sellers" is Shakoor's Sweet Potato Cheesecake, which is the ultimate combination of a special blend of sweet potatoes and the finest cream cheese. We are equipped to provide small or large quantities of our Sweet Potato Cheese cake and many of our other products to suit anyone's needs.

Why did you join the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and how did the Chamber help your business?
We joined the Brooklyn Chamber in 2002 to take advantage of the various networking opportunities including Brooklyn Eats, the Chamber's annual food tasting event. Our participation at the 6th edition of Brooklyn Eats brought us our biggest client to date. We participated in the 2003 event where we were able to make arrangements to provide our services to another large client. Needless to say, this event has became a regular part of our marketing strategy.
We also attended seminars sponsored by the Chamber's Fooditude program where we learned a great deal about global markets for our products.
