Brooklyn's Progress October 2002
Susan Kind has been named Corporate Vice President for Development at Continuum Health Partners, effective September 3, 2002. Ms. Kind will oversee the fundraising programs of hospitals within Continuum, the parent company of Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Long Island College Hospital and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Ms. Kind was most recently Vice President for Development at Montefiore Medical Center, where she managed and directed the $120 million capital campaign for The Children's Hospital at Montefiore and for the rest of the hospital. "We are delighted to welcome Ms. Kind, who is well-versed in the challenges of building critical support for the efforts of not-for-profit institutions," said Peter A. Kelly, Continuum President and CEO. "She has the experience that can help raise the level of public awareness and philanthropic support for many programs that benefit our hospitals' patients and the greater New York community." Ms. Kind is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education and a masters in professional studies with an emphasis on humanistic education. Following graduation from college, she became a consultant for the Cooperative Learning Project of the Poughkeepsie School District in upstate New York, and later, for the American Institute for Foreign Study. She worked as a teacher for the Wimpfheimer School, a laboratory school affiliated with Vassar College, also in Poughkeepsie. She discovered her interest in fundraising and what she calls her "ability to be gently persuasive" while working on special projects with the president of Vassar College, where eventually, as Principal Gifts Officer, she managed and directed all cultivation activities for principal gifts for the school's $150 million capital campaign. Before going to Montefiore, she was Senior Director of Development for the Tisch School of Arts of New York University where she was instrumental in creating the prestigious Dean's Council. Ms. Kind is a member of the Advisory Board at NYU's Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising and serves on the Board of Directors of Women in Development, which is based in New York City. Ms. Kind's office is located in the offices of Continuum Health Partners at 555 West 57th Street in Manhattan. |
