Brooklyn's Progress November 2003
By Gilda’s Club New York City Brooklyn Clubhouse
Gilda's Club New York City Brooklyn Clubhouse, a proud new member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, recently celebrated its grand opening on September 25, 2003. The new home-like clubhouse is housed in 3,000 square feet of brownstone space, donated by neighboring New York Methodist Hospital.
Founded in 1995 as an independent non-profit organization, named for Comedienne Gilda Radner who died of ovarian cancer in 1989, the Gilda’s Club New York City mission is to provide a meeting place where men, women, and children living with cancer or affected by it join with others to build social and emotional support as an essential supplement to their medical care. Today, Gilda’s Club New York City welcomes a membership of more than 3,500 men, women and children with all types of cancer.
Our unique program includes: 23 weekly support and 16 cancer and issue specific networking groups, 100 monthly lectures and workshops, regular social events, a special program for children affected by cancer known as Noogieland and a bilingual program for Latinos.
Gilda’s Club New York City is the only organization in New York City exclusively dedicated to providing a meeting place where people affected with cancer can foster a community of social and emotional support free of charge.
Gilda’s Club New York City is supported primarily by charitable gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. To learn more about our Brooklyn Clubhouse please call Katie Porter 718-788-1600 or visit http://www.gildasclubnyc.org/. |
