Making All the Right Moves back to Brooklyn's Progress Online

Brooklyn's Progress
November 2004

Embora Wellness & Movement Studio hosted its grand opening reception on Sept. 18 at its beautifully renovated 2,500 square foot studio at 900 Fulton St.  The first of its kind in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, Embora is a wellness and movement training center that offers both traditional and modern dance forms as well as an exceptional mind/body fitness component.  The well-attended event featured entertainment from a variety of Afro-centric music and dance performers.

Embora is not a new idea; it has been a 15-year odyssey. Starting a new business is a miracle in itself and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce through its Fulton FIRST program and its satellite office of the NYC Business Solutions Center supplied necessary assistance with a broad spectrum of technical, marketing and educational services.

“I see things from a martial arts perspective: Going into business is like a long great war and finding the assistance you need when you need it can often be the difference between success and failure,” said Emory M. Moore Jr., sole proprietor of Embora Wellness & Movement Studio.  “The Brooklyn Chamber not only provided me with expert assistance but its staff gave me steady encouragement that I found to be invaluable. Personally, I believe entrepreneurs who do not avail themselves of the many services offered to small businesses by organizations like the Brooklyn Chamber are placing themselves at a disadvantage oftentimes resulting in misdirected energy and inefficient use of time and resources.  From finding my space, to reviewing my business plan, to identifying financing options, to assisting with promoting my grand opening and further supporting the event by attending – the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce made doing business easier for me.”

Embora looks forward to serving the Clinton Hill community and the borough with services designed for the whole family from children to seniors. The center offers classes in yoga, pilates, martial arts and holistic exercise, in private, semi-private or group training formats with customized services also available. Various styles of massage therapy, acupuncture and nutrition ensure that total wellness services are available to maintain and enhance quality of life.
