Brooklyn's Progress January 2002
For the sixth straight year CitiStorage employees have brought holiday cheer to the children of The League Treatment Center. According to Elaine Brodsky of CitiStorage, several years ago the storage and retrieval firm’s employees decided to forgo their annual holiday party for a socially responsible activity that would have lasting effect. Along with her husband, Norman Brodsky, they came up with an alternative for the employees to provide a Christmas event for children. Working with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, The League Treatment Center was identified as the recipient of the CitiStorage employees’ kindness. The Center provides CitiStorage with a list suggesting a specific gift for each child that will help them developmentally. This year, CitiStorage employees provided gifts for 135 children at the Treatment Center. The employees make daily visits with the children from December 17 to 21 to share in the holiday joy. The League Treatment Center is a comprehensive center for childhood and adult mental disorders. Located in DUMBO, the Center offers treatment, education and support for children and their families. The Center began as the nation’s first day treatment program for autistic children. It was founded in 1953 by Dr. Carl Fenichel who pioneered a new approach to treating autism and serious mental disabilities. This story was reported by Artesia Balthrop. |
