Brooklyn's Progress January 2002
Long Island College Hospital welcomes Joshua Greenspan, M.D., the new Medical Director of the Division of Pain Management in the Department of Anesthesiology. Greenspan is an alumnus of the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, where he received “Distinction in Research” honors. He completed a residency in Anesthesia and a Fellowship in Pain Management at new York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He is a member of the American Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain. Many pain management programs offer only one type of treatment, such as acupuncture, while others focus on specific complaints, such as arthritis pain or persistent headaches. “The pain management program at LICH is comprehensive and includes physicians of different specialties, as well as nurses and therapists,” says Greenspan. “Treatments can include medication, injections, electrical stimulation, physical therapy, surgery, or combination of the above. Our team works together to find the source of the patient’s pain and treat it.” Joseph Giffin, M.D., chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, agrees. “Joshua Greenspan brings to Long Island College Hospital an expert’s knowledge of the nature of pain and its effect on the individual, as well as deep compassion for patients and a desire to alleviate their suffering.” |
