Brooklyn's Progress January 2003
The Volunteer Lawyers’ Project (VLP) announces the appointment of Bonnie Beth Greenball to serve as the Executive Director. Greenball most recently served as Special Counsel to the Conflicts of Interest Board (COIB), the City of New York’s independent ethics agency. There she played a major role in the COIB’s pro bono opinion, which clarified the rules and thereby encouraged pro bono service by City attorneys. She was also responsible for an opinion regarding City employees who leave public service to work for not-for-profits.
Throughout her tenure, she published extensively and taught CLE courses on conflicts of interest law. In addition, she was one of a core group of attorneys who volunteered to work daily with families of September 11th victims on the death certificate program at the Family Assistance Center. Greenball received her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in English from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law.
James P. Slattery, President of the VLP stated, "We are thrilled that Ms.Greenball has joined our organization. We believe she will take the VLP to the next level and will inspire us all to the greater good."
The VLP was established in 1990 by the Brooklyn Bar Association (BBA) and is the only organization providing pro bono legal assistance borough wide to the indigent population of King’s County. |
