Brooklyn's Progress December 2003
Joseph M. Perello, NYC’s first Chief Marketing Officer, was the keynote speaker for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Marketing Expo 2003 on Nov. 19 at Grand Prospect Hall.
Mr. Perello talked about his efforts create revenue-generating opportunities that benefit New York City through marketing, licensing, sponsorship and other commercial enterprises. His primary objectives include identifying the core marketing assets of the City and each City agency and tastefully centralizing them into a comprehensive value proposition to corporate sponsorships much the same way any successful sports franchise or museum develops corporate support. Simultaneously, he develops proprietary City trademarks to license and distribute much the same was the NFL or the NBA develops, licenses and distributes their teams and league marks.
In addition to the keynote address the event included two sessions on “Out of the Box” Marketing Techniques. Panelists for Session I included: Alan Seige, Small Business Management Consulting, who talked about “Strange Bedfellows: Unlikely Marketing Partners;” Gail Donovan, Donovan Communications, her topic was “Magic Mirrors: How to Make a Small Firm Appear Larger;” and Rosalie Paulonis, Viking Hospitality Marketing & Media, who talked about “Keeping Score: Tangible Target Marketing.” Mark Kessler, Vice President for Program Development at the Brooklyn Chamber was the moderator.
Session II included: Petra E. Lewis, Stone Communications, who talked about “Managing Serendipity: Mining Your Community Contacts;” Susan Martin, Business Sanity, her topic was “Rx for Marketing & Sales Phobia;” and Gail Johnson, Brooklink Media, LLC/NRG Magazine, who talked about “Town Crier: Using Community Publications to Maximize Outreach & Sales.” Randolph Peers, Executive Director for Workforce Development for the Brooklyn Chamber was the moderator.
