Brooklyn Chamber Board member, Lisa A. Bing, has been elected 2003 President, ASTDNY-Metro Chapter (American Society for Training and Development). ASTD is a national organization that provides practical tools, research and publications showcasing the latest trends and techniques used by industry leaders worldwide. ASTDNY is the New York City area local chapter, where workplace learning and performance professionals come together for professional development and networking. ASTDNY hosts a variety of monthly events that include noted speakers, authors, forums for people in transitions, a professional development series, special interest groups and monthly networking gatherings.

As president, Ms. Bing wants to spread the word that “learning and development is a key strategic business tool for the 21st century”. Her vision is to strengthen the link between learning and results through provocative programming that challenges traditional beliefs about learning and develops the business competencies essential for strategic learning.  According to Ms. Bing, “Today’s workplace is more challenging than ever. Marketplace demands are shifting continuously and there is a subtle shift occurring in employee expectations about work. This combination will challenge leaders in particular, to learn more about themselves and how to gain greater commitment from their teams. Without strategic learning, missed opportunities, untapped human potential and continual frustration are practically guaranteed.”

In her role as principal of Bing Consulting Group, Inc., an organizational development consultancy, she works with leaders who want to get more done through their teams, through coaching, action team meetings, workshops and presentations. Ms. Bing has worked with clients that include Prudential Financial, HSBC Bank USA, Verizon and the NYC Department of Employment.
