Brooklyn's Progress March 2004
By Maggie Beaute-Lucien
On Feb. 4, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Manhattan, the New Bronx, the Staten Island, and the Queens Chambers of Commerce presented the 2nd Annual 5-Chamber Joint Networking event at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, Queens. Over 500 business professionals were in attendance at this members-only event, demonstrating the collective strength of New York’s five chambers. The Brooklyn Chamber made a strong showing with 125 of its Members attending the event.
The evening’s festivities opened with an introduction by keynote speaker Stuart Suna, President of Silvercup Studios. A presentation followed by the Creative Coalition, a non-profit, non-partisan association comprised of professionals from the arts and entertainment communities that educates its members on vital public issues. A raffle was held at the close of the event in which five lucky winners each received a gift basket presented by each chamber. The Brooklyn Chamber’s basket was a gorgeous creation by Nature’s Lane Florist and Gifts that included donated items from Pictureplay Productions, Chocolate Printing Company, U.S. Coffee, Palmiras Restaurant, and Uncle Matt’s Brooklyn Merchandise. The winner of the Brooklyn Chamber basket was our very own Member, Steffi Walteringer-Kalil of ATELIER ef design. Many thanks go to the evening’s host, Silvercup Studios, the largest independent, full service film and television production facility in the northeastern United States, and home to HBO’s Sex and the City and The Sopranos, as well as many popular feature films and television commercials. Also thanks go out to the Chamber Presidents Kenneth Adams, Brooklyn Chamber, Lawrence J. DeMaria, Staten Island Chamber, Adolfo Carrión Jr., New Bronx Chamber, and Raymond J. Irrera, Queens Chamber. A special recognition to Bill Egan, Executive Vice President and his staff at the Queens Chamber and Nancy Ploeger, President, Manhattan Chamber and her team for organizing a fantastic and fun event.
Please don’t forget to join the Chamber at the next Business After Hours, at Night of the Cookers in Fort Greene, Tuesday, March 16, 2004, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s monthly networking events are great ways to meet other Members, make new business contacts and have a great time along the way.
