Calling All Businessess Affected by Operation Dumpster back to Brooklyn's Progress Online

Brooklyn's Progress
March 2004

Many manufacturers are facing challenges with waste disposal.

The New York Industrial Retention Network (NYIRN) recently began a campaign to reach out to all NYC manufacturers affected by Operation Dumpster (the NYC Department of Sanitation regulation restricting the placement of sanitation dumpsters on sidewalks).  As you may know, the city recently initiated Operation Dumpster to vigorously enforce prohibitions on the placement of dumpsters on sidewalks, even in industrial areas.  Many companies have complained that it is difficult for them to comply and that they risk substantial fines for a problem that they cannot correct.  Consequently NYIRN is researching the issue to document the impact of Operation Dumpster and whether or not industrial areas might be exempted.

If you are a business that has been fined as a result of Operation Dumpster and would like to become involved in seeking to change the regulation, please contact Stephanie Silver at 718-624-6800 ext. 19, or ssilver@nyirn.org.
