Brooklyn's Progress March 2004
Astoria Federal Savings has awarded a $5,000 grant to Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Inc., of Brooklyn, to fund its Homebuyer Education Program, which helps low-and moderate-income individuals and families learn more about the different aspects of homeownership from mortgages to home repair.
“In keeping with our corporate pledge to ‘Putting people first,’ I am very pleased to provide this grant to Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” said Maribel Agosto, Manager of Astoria Federal’s 5th Avenue Branch. “It’s a great way for us to help our customers and the local community at the same time.”
Since 1990, Neighbors Helping Neighbors has been providing financial counseling and economic assistance to homebuyers in the Park Slope/Gowanus area.
“The grant will allow us to continue our mission-driven work to help low-income families build assets and achieve their dreams,” Neighbors Helping Neighbors Chief Executive Officer Lisa-Nicolle Grist said. |
