Brooklyn's Progress April 2004
Story by Maggie Beaute-Lucien
Just a few days shy of spring, New York City was hit with another un-welcomed snowstorm. That, of course, did not stop Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Members from coming out to Night of the Cookers in Fort Greene on Tuesday, March 16. Some 85 attendees braved the cold, sleet and snow to enjoy a night of networking and Night of the Cookers’ world-famous catfish fingers.
In keeping with the tradition of raffling off a door prize, Brooklyn Chamber President Kenneth Adams presented Asi Kirmayer of Kirmayer PLLC, a gift bag generously donated by Matthew Stephanie of Uncle Matt’s Brooklyn Merchandise. Members may soon dub Asi “Mr. Lucky,” as he’s won a BAH raffle prize at least three times since joining the Brooklyn Chamber.
About our Host
Night of the Cookers derives from a time when Brooklyn jazz musicians who performed in Manhattan would return to Brooklyn for a late night supper and would continue their jam sessions till the wee hours of the morning. Night of the Cookers continues that feel of jazz through displaying work from inspired artists such as saxophonist Teodross Avery and drummer Derrick Phillips, to name a few. Night of the Cookers has earned a reputation as a premiere restaurant destination and is a 2001 recipient of the Village Voice Reader’s Award for “Brooklyn’s Best Catfish.”
Many thanks to Phil Myers, Restaurant Owner, George Constantinou, Manager and the Night of the Cookers staff for making the Brooklyn Chamber’s March Business After Hours event a wonderful success.
Don’t forget the next Business After Hours, at The Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg, sponsored by Naturally Delicious Foods, Tuesday, April 27, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s monthly networking events are great ways to meet other Members, make new business contacts and have a great time along the way.
