Brooklyn's Progress April/May 2006
BY HAROLD EGELN
The science of business networking came together at a Five-Borough Chamber Networking Event held at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows, Queens on March 9.
Presented by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and New Bronx Chambers of Commerce, attendees at this Members-only event were welcomed by Brooklyn-born Physicist and Hall of Science Director Alan Friedman, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall and Queens Chamber President Ray Irrera.
"This is a wonderful place. It's excellent that we’ve come together again to share and network," said Brooklyn Chamber President Kenneth Adams, after being introduced by William Egan, Senior Vice President, Queens Chamber of Commerce.
Over 350 Chamber Members attended the event, with the Brooklyn Chamber representing about one-third of the guests. The Brooklyn Chamber was represented by longtime Members like Jerome Phillips, The Tablet as well as new Members such as Lori and Jerry Maurer, Maurer Enterprises. The Hall of Science’s many fascinating, hands-on exhibits were available for viewing, including Connections: The Nature of Networks, The Sports Challenge and The Search for Life Beyond Earth. For more information about the NY Hall of Science go to http://www.nyhallsci.org/.
Each of the five chambers provided gifts for the evening’s door prize drawings. David Rosasco, Nichibei Translations, was the winner of the Brooklyn Chamber's gift basket filled with goodies from fellow Brooklyn Chamber Members Daisy May Natural Soaps, Red, White Bubbly, Chipolte and Hibiscus Day Spa.
The Five-Borough Chamber Networking Events were started in June 2003, with the Manhattan Chamber hosting the first one. Each chamber takes its turn at hosting the events at well-known and interesting places throughout the five boroughs.
Event Sponsors Sponsors of the event were Atlantis Health Plan, Con Edison, State Bank of Long Island, Health Plus, Commerce Bank, Yellow Book USA, and New York Community Bank/Queens County Savings Bank. The event was catered by Dream Street Caterers of East Meadow.
