Brooklyn's Progress
April/May 2008

BY KHADIJA BATUTA

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the following staff appointments:

WORKFORCE & TRAINING: Albert Smith joined the Chamber on Mar. 17 as a workforce and development specialist with Good Help, the Chamber’s free, business-driven staffing and employment program. With previous experience in human resources at Concord Family Services in Bedford Stuyvesant – where Albert resides – he will focus on Good Help’s social services and health care accounts, and will work with Director Mike Rosenthal and Workforce Development Coordinator Tondalaya London on career fairs and other outreach initiatives. Excited by the opportunity to support the growth of the borough’s businesses, Albert also looks forward to attending Long Island University this fall to pursue an undergraduate degree in Human Resources and Business Administration. You may reach Albert at 718-875-1000 ext. 131, or at asmith@brooklynchamber.com.

MARKETING & MEMBERSHIP: Keihcel Gordon was welcomed as an administrative assistant in the marketing & membership department on Feb. 25.  Keihcel supports the department’s Member acquisition and retention initiatives, assists with Chamber events and membership database integrity, and other duties.  A 2007 high school graduate of the Brooklyn School for Global Studies, Keihcel began his career at the Chamber with a three-month internship through the Opportunity Knocks Young Adult Internship Program at Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, a Sunset Park-based job training and placement organization headed up by Chamber Member Randy Peers.  A resident of the borough’s Clinton Hill neighborhood, Keihcel finds pleasure in classical music, writing poetry – and gaining experience at his first full-time position.  “I really enjoy the Chamber and the people I’ve met, and am appreciative of this golden opportunity,” Keihcel said.  Keihcel may be reached at 718-875-1000 ext. 151, or at kgordon@brooklynchamber.com.
