Brooklyn's Progress April/May 2008
New York City Ladders for Leaders is an innovative program that offers high school and college students between the age of 16 and 21 the opportunity to participate in summer internships with some of the most dynamic corporations and businesses in the city.
The program also emphasizes the importance of pursuing a post-secondary education by offering an array or resources to support the learning and growth of its participants.
Selected students participate in a rigorous six-month pre-internship training program including workshops about workplace etiquette, resume guidance and interviewing skills. They are then referred to employers based on need and the participant's skills and interests. Final hiring decisions are made by the employer.
Summer internships are seven weeks in duration with a minimum of 25 hours per week. Intern salaries are employee-paid and set at minimum wage or higher (at the employer's discretion).
They are currently seeking new sponsors for the 2008 program. Your business can support the program by providing summer internship opportunities and/or donating funds to support program costs, including college scholarships and college preparatory test courses for eligible participants.
