Brooklyn's Progress June 2004
Growth is an issue on the minds of all Brooklyn CEOs. Whether it’s working to grow faster, or managing the challenges that arise from growing too quickly, most CEOs spend their days and nights focusing on how to grow revenues and profits.
Linda Hurwitz, a new Brooklyn Chamber Member, and former CEO, is working to help Brooklyn CEOs achieve the growth they desire through TEC, the largest leadership organization for chief executives.
The TEC process includes peer-group support, access to world-class business experts, one-on-one executive coaching and communication with a global community of more than 9,000 members. The tools provided by TEC help business owners and chief executives outperform the competition and even their own goals. On average, TEC member companies grow 2.5 times faster after joining TEC than before.
Hurwitz is introducing TEC to the Brooklyn market, although some Brooklyn businessmen and women have already turned to Manhattan and New Jersey TEC groups.
Since 1957, TEC has helped CEOs of companies with revenues of $1 million to $1 billion. Monthly - in 14 countries - member groups of up to 18 CEOs from non-competing industries come together to share best practices and proactively seek confidential help in critical situations.
TEC’s professional development model also includes guest speakers selected from a database of 1,500 of the world’s leading business thinkers. Additionally, TEC members have private access to extensive online content on a wide variety of topics that provides information and insight on the multitude of issues facing business leaders. Hurwitz brings an extensive background to her role as a TEC chair, which is focused on coaching and offering guidance rather than serving as a consultant. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and was working on a doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania when she started a medical equipment manufacturing business.
As an entrepreneur, she took her company from start-up stage through acquisition by a major industry force. Hurwitz spent several years working with Fortune 500 companies and banks in their launch of new products and services, and prior to her affiliation with TEC, she was focused on economic development in Brooklyn and helping entrepreneurs start or grow their business and access capital. She is also an adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Long Island University and Baruch College.
“I’m extremely excited about bringing the resources of TEC to the business leaders of Brooklyn” said Linda Hurwitz. “As a group chairwoman I will be delivering on TEC’s promise to enhance the effectiveness and improve the lives of chief executives.” On July 13 a TEC informational session will be held at the New York Marriot at the Brooklyn Bridge.
