Brooklyn's Progress July 2001
By Frances Ayende
OBE Computer Services Inc., Victor Odesanya, owner, hosted the Minority & Women’s Business Owners Committee meeting on June 22. His tremendous facility facility includes; computer time rental, internet access, color copies & reproductions, faxing (send and receive) web page design, posters and fiery prints, blue print copies, and PC/Mac plotting. With such a great facility we were able to invite Herbert Samuels, President of BrookLynx and provider of the Brooklyn Chamber’s FREE web pages. Samuels provided a hands-on demonstration on how to create you own FREE Chamber web page. Samuel Dunston from National Allotment Insurance Agency, Inc. a veteran Member of the Chamber took advantage of this offer and created his FREE web page. Sara Schwittek from Four Eyes Productions was so exited that she attended the meeting because this was just the type of business she was looking for. Among some of the new Brooklyn Chamber Members in attendance were Sherylle Bates from Fruition; Charles Foster from Watson Rice, LLP; Jennifer Gerend from Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project; and Estella Greene from Barton, Greene & Vance. One of the great benefits of having a meeting hosted by a Member is that it gives the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce staff and those in attendance an opportunity to get to know what that business is all about and what they have to offer. In return it gives the Member hosting the event or meeting exposure. Thank you to Victor for allowing the Chamber to hold the meeting in his great location. Some of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce staff that attended the meeting were, Tony Lacitignola, vice president of Marketing; Yvonne Riley, director of Special Events and Mark Kessler, director of iBrooklyn. The Brooklyn Chamber will offer the “Create Your FREE Web Page” seminar at its “Marketing Expo” on August 2. Look for details in flyers and on the Chamber web site. Please stay tuned for information about the next Minority & Women’s Business Owners Committee meeting date and location.
