Brooklyn's Progress July 2002
At the May 29 BUILDING BROOKLYN AWARDS 2002, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce honored ten recent construction projects in Brooklyn that have made significant contributions toward enhancing the business conditions and economic climate of the borough. The ten winners in nine categories – ranging from “Affordable Housing” to “Retail” and “Education” – represent more than $480 million in investments in the borough of Brooklyn. The second annual Building Brooklyn Awards, recognizing projects completed in 2001, were presented at a ceremony at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. In addition to the announcement of the building awards, the event honored Jeffrey S. Wilpon, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Brooklyn Baseball Company, and featured remarks from Special Guest Daniel L. Doctoroff, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding. Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President Kenneth Adams said, “These projects represent a significant investment not only in the infrastructure and real estate of this borough, but in the people of Brooklyn.
