Brooklyn's Progress July 2003
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce welcomes Khadija Batuta and Joan Purkiss to the Membership Department.
Khadija joined the Brooklyn Chamber on April 14, as marketing coordinator with the Membership Department. She comes to the Brooklyn Chamber with extensive sales and marketing experience via a number of innovative media companies, both online and offline. Khadija’s career focus has been in providing support to sales organizations from supervising account services teams to managing the logistics of media properties, as well as selling print and online advertising.
“I was looking for an opportunity to work with a non-profit after my dot.com experience, and found a great team of people here at the Chamber doing really good work,” Khadija said.
Khadija’s energies for the last several weeks have been primarily devoted to the Annual Membership Drive, and with the momentum generated from that event she is looking forward to continuing, along with the efforts of Member volunteers, with the Brooklyn Chamber’s ongoing acquisition and retention initiatives.
“I believe in what the Chamber does for Brooklyn’s business community and I am excited about using my skills to support their efforts to strengthen membership. Another priority is making the Chamber’s services and resources more accessible to Members through the Chamber’s website, iBrooklyn.com, which is a terrific asset,” Khadija added.
In that vein, changes are already underway with the Membership section of the web site. Khadija encourages all Members to bookmark iBrooklyn.com and visit the site often for up-to-the-minute news on Chamber events and services.
Joan Purkiss joined the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to assist in the Membership Drive and to help with Special Events. Joan has a strong background in marketing, including retention and acquisition marketing, as well as marketing and advertising research for AT&T, she developed multicultural markets in Brooklyn and has implemented numerous consumer research studies supporting the AT&T brand and marketing campaigns.
