Brooklyn's Progress August 2003
After a 2-year hiatus, one of New York's top street festivals is back on schedule for this September. The Atlantic Antic will be held September 21, 2003, from 10AM- 6PM on Atlantic Avenue from Hicks Street in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill to Fourth Avenue in Boerum Hill. The event is produced by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC.)
Some of City’s best street shopping and eating is to be found at the Antic with its premier craftspeople, vendors, open-air kitchens, sidewalk sales and back-to-back performances lining the street. Thousands typically venture out this day to shop, stroll and nosh their way up and down the Avenue.
This year, organizers promise more distinctive entertainment areas including a Middle Eastern stage, a Main Stage and two neighborhood performance areas to showcase performers. Confirmed entertainers include Popa Chubby, Eddie The Sheik, Paprika and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Kids will enjoy the Flying Bridge Puppet Parade, Black Cowboy Pony Rides, clowns, face painting, Gowanus Wildcats and Micro Museum Big Chair.
The Atlantic Antic was established in 1974 by local merchants and it is currently produced by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation, a not-for-profit organization committed to the economic development of the Atlantic Avenue from Brooklyn's East River waterfront to Flatbush Avenue. The event spans four neighborhoods and attracts more than 300,000 people. |
