Brooklyn's Progress August 2003
NY1 NOTICIAS Available Exclusively on Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey
In keeping with providing all the latest news to New Yorkers around the clock, Time Warner Cable and NY1 News will premiere NY1 Noticias -- a 24-hour Spanish-language news channel launching on June 30, 2003, at 8:01 PM. Dedicated to New York's Hispanic community, NY1 Noticias will be available exclusively on channel 801 to Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey digital customers.
For the more than ten years, NY1 News has broadened the definition of what constitutes local news and has become an integral part of New Yorkers' daily lives. Now, Noticias will bring that same focus and dedication to Time Warner Cable's Spanish speaking viewers. Noticias will provide news, entertainment, sports and weather familiar to longtime fans of NY1 but from a Hispanic perspective. Viewers can expect to see NY1 standards including "The Weather on the 1s", "The World Beyond New York" and "In The Papers" as well as a heavy emphasis on politics, education and mass transit, transmitted entirely in Spanish from its newsroom based in the Chelsea Market. Noticias will also have in-depth coverage of issues that have a direct impact on Hispanic New Yorkers such as immigration, public health and community affairs.
"The goal is to create a Spanish news channel devoted entirely to the interests and concerns of the Hispanic population in New York," said Steve Paulus, NY1's senior vice president and general manager. "Much like NY1 News, Noticias will be the channel for the Hispanic community to watch for breaking news coverage, exclusive and investigative stories, and in-depth analysis of everything happening in and around New York City."
The three anchors for Noticias come from different Hispanic backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the community that they will be reporting on. Adhemar Montagne was born in London, but spent his childhood in Peru. He obtained his degree in Mass Communications from Fordham University and comes to Noticias from WNJU-TV. Anchor Adriana Hauser was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. She obtained her Masters in Broadcast Journalism from New York University and comes to Noticias having worked at the United Nations as an anchor and producer of the UN's daily news broadcast in English and Spanish. Anchor Philip Klint was born in Holland, but raised in Mexico. He obtained his Masters in Journalism from Columbia University and comes to Noticias, having worked as a reporter for Televisa in New York.
Whether a viewer lives in the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, Mount Vernon, Western Brooklyn or Bergan County, N.J., Noticias will be positioned to provide Hispanic viewers with the most extensive and complete local news coverage.
