Brooklyn's Progress
August 2003

By Wilson Alexander Aguilar

Scaramouche is more than just the outlandish buffoon from Comedia dell’Arte; in Brooklyn it is the home to some of the best pastry in the world. Café Scaramouche is a fairly new café/patisserie but is not new to the culinary world. Chef/Owner Grace Martinez has catered for the former president of Argentina, Mr. Eduardo Duhale, and distributes baked goods to one of New York’s finest gourmet stores: Dean & Deluca.  Café Scaramouche though is not exclusive morning pastries and coffee; this eatery offers croissants, scones, cookies, light favorites such as soups, salads, crab cakes, Argentinean short ribs for lunch and early dinners. For the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s New Member Orientation in June, Café Scaramouche provided blueberry muffins and scones, chocolate scones with zest of orange, coffee and an array of additional breakfast pastries.  If your mouth isn’t watering yet, know that Café Scaramouche provides afternoon tea services with accompanying cheese plates, cheese fondue, and accompanying wine. All these delicacies you may appreciate in Café Scaramouche’s own living room, adorned with stained glass and warmed by mahogany tables, or elsewhere using the Café’s own catering service.  For more information about Café Scaramouche’s extensive menu and catering services, contact Mr. Gabriel Marocchi at (718) 855-9158.
