Brooklyn's Progress
September 2002

The day was one of Brooklyn’s hottest, with a heat advisory in affect, and the UV warning at 8, which means that you only had to be in the sun for twenty minutes before exposure to the sun became harmful. But that did not stop the more than 150 golf players from traversing the beautiful landscape and terrain of Seawane’s Country Club, in Hewlett Harbor, Long Island, on Monday, July 29. Among those that braved the heat were sponsors Health Plus, Inc., CitiBank, Independence Community Bank, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Con Edison, and Tree Line Companies, were Congressman Ed Towns and Thomas McMahon, General Council to City Council Speaker Gifford Miller. Some noteworthy winners for the day’s events: Frank McLaughlin (Verizon), 1st Men’s Low; Allison Brettschneider (Command Bus Company), 1st Women’s Low; Brad Fields (Command Bus Company), Longest Drive and Closest Man To The Line; Joni Yoswein (Yoswein New York), Closest Woman To The Line; Andrew Scano (Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration Partners), Nearest Man To Pin; and Laura Capra (Independence Community Bank), Nearest Woman To Pin. And we also want to thank the generous donors of raffle prizes: Astroland Park, Aunt Suzie’s Restaurant, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, the Brooklyn Cyclones, Camonn Doran, Dan Holt and Courier Life Publications, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Gargiulo's Restaurant, Gift Baskets & Things, Holiday Inn (JFK Airport), KeySpan, Seawane Country Club, Source 4, and Brooklyn Chamber supporter and friend, that donated the four DVD players – who requested to remain anonymous. Additional special thanks go to: Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Independence Community Bank, Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Kendall Christiansen, Ambassador Yellow Pages, Citibank, Focus Marketing, and Trophy World. Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to all the donors, the Golf Outing Committee – including Committee Chair, Jim Clarke, and the supporters and participants of the Chamber Classic. We hope you had fun and look forward to seeing you again next year!
