Brooklyn's Progress
September 2002

What do Nature’s Lane, Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast and Café, Steve’s Mom and Sign-A-Rama have in common? Well of course they are Chamber Members, but they have also recently been featured in local and national media. NY1 has a regular feature called the Fortune Small Business Report. Rita Nissan, reporter for NY1, did a story on Steve’s Mom, a manufacturer of specialty, baked goods such as Rugelach. Suellen Schussel, the owner spoke about how she started her business and how she keeps costs down. On August 21, Nissan interviewed Franchot and Rose Lee from Nature’s Lane. The Lees talked about how they are able to successfully work together as business partners and then go home as husband and wife. That segment is scheduled to air in early September. In addition a story has been done on Sign-A-Rama, a company that produces all types of signs. Nissan interviewed Astrudge McLean about the pros and cons of owning a franchise. Fast Company magazine, the magazine that showcases companies that are reinventing how business is done, featured a story on Monique Greenwood in the September issue. Greenwood is the proprietor of Akwaaba Mansion Bed & Breakfast and Café. The article explained how Greenwood left the publishing fast track to run an inn and open a restaurant.
