| May 16, 2008 12:00pm to 2:00pm Hosted by the MetroTech BID, this year's outdoor lunchtime concert series feature a stellar lineup. The concerts showcase various music genres, including jazz, bluesy ballads, soukous, 50's rock tunes, and swing music. FREE. Performances are from 12 to 2 p.m. every Friday during the month of May:
May 2 – The Cliff Korman Gafieira Jazz For the last 20 years jazz pianist and composer Cliff Korman has traveled through South America and explored the connections between American jazz and Brazilian instrumental music.
May 9 – Dominic Kanza and the African Rhythm Machine Dominic Kanza is a leading performer of soukous and Congolese rumba. His brilliant guitar techniques reflect the traditions of soukous and also draw from jazz, Cuban, and American popular music.
May 16 – Ginetta’s Vendetta Mixing the funkiest versions of the jazz classics with her danceable originals, bandleader Ginetta commands any stage with her signature pocket-trumpet, sultry vocals and special brand of high-octane entertainment.
May 23 – The Jeff King Band The Jeff King Band brings a blend of contemporary jazz and soulful vocals to the stage that has not been heard in a very long time. The band bops and swings its way through the first opening numbers with a combination of original material and what Jeff calls the “New Jazz Standards.
May 30 – Linda Ipanema and The Dixie Cats Known as “The Queen of Dixieland”, Linda sings, dances, and wisecracks into the hearts of audiences ably accompanied by her band. This foot-tapping, finger-snapping review features classical Dixieland tunes, bluesy ballads, big band swing, polkas, and 50’s rock tunes.
