This fall, Brooklyn shoppers will have the chance to make their dollars go a long way in supporting one of Brooklyn’s most cherished local institutions – the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. From Oct. 15 through Nov. 15, American Express will donate 5% of every American Express Card transaction made at select Brooklyn stores and restaurants – up to $30,000 – to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
“We are really grateful and excited about American Express investing in Brooklyn. The Chamber and American Express have come up with a great way to encourage Brooklynites to visit the unique shops and restaurants in Brooklyn,” said Jim Heckler whose restaurant Lunetta, located at 116 Smith Street, is participating.
The funds from this initiative will go toward assisting in the Museum’s expansion efforts, which will nearly double its size by 2007.
“As a proud Member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with both the Chamber and American Express to encourage the economic vitality of Brooklyn through this special promotion,” Brooklyn Children’s Museum President Carol Enseki said. “Brooklyn Children's Museum has been an integral part of the Brooklyn community since its doors opened as the world's first children's museum in 1899. We thank American Express for their support in helping our Museum continue to provide high quality, fun-filled, and educationally rich programs to the families of Brooklyn whom we serve.”
“This effort is a win-win situation for everyone involved. It not only promotes the economic development of Brooklyn by supporting our local shops and restaurants but it also ensures the future of Brooklyn Children’s Museum, one of the borough’s great assets,” said Rosalie Rance, Vice President, Marketing and Membership, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. “American Express is proving that it is a good community partner, so I encourage everyone to shop and dine in Brooklyn, and use your Amex Card without hesitation.”
The award-winning Museum engages young people from pre-school to high school with hands-on exhibits and learning activities.
“The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has a long history helping to nourish the minds and imaginations of children in the community,” said Marcia Caban, Vice President, American Express Establishment Services. “American Express is very proud to have the opportunity to provide funds that will help support this great institution.”
