The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for its 2007 Building Brooklyn Awards (BBA). This annual event recognizes recently completed construction projects with a positive impact on the borough’s economy and quality of life.
“With each Building Brooklyn Awards program the Brooklyn Chamber has the chance to highlight the structures that exemplify the dynamism and vibrancy of our borough,” said Mark Kessler, Interim President and Chief Operating Officer, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. “I expect the 2007 Awards to be filled with exciting projects that demonstrate how creatively we channel new investment in our borough.”
This year the Brooklyn Chamber is accepting nominations in 15 categories: arts and culture, education, public works, community facility, religious facility, industrial, office building, office interior, retail building, retail storefront, residential-single family, residential-medium density, residential-multi-family, residential-affordable housing and green building.
Eligible projects should have received a Certificate of Occupancy prior to Dec. 31, 2006. Projects nominated for last year’s Building Brooklyn Awards that were not chosen may be re-submitted for consideration.
All nominations should be received by the Brooklyn Chamber no later than by the extended deadline of Friday, Mar. 9, 2007. To download the 2007 nomination form, please click here.
A panel of architects, planners, government officials, economic development experts and business leaders will select the award recipients. The Building Brooklyn Awards ceremony and cocktail reception will take place summer 2007.
Last year, 14 construction projects from around the borough were recognized during a ceremony held at the Brooklyn Museum that attracted more than 450 attendees including real estate, design and construction professionals and government officials. The Building Brooklyn Awards, which also honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the business conditions and economic climate of Brooklyn, recognized Regina Myer, former director of the Brooklyn Office of the Department of City Planning, and Douglas C. Steiner, chairman, Steiner Studios in 2006.
