Pfizer Inc. today announced as part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the future growth of the company, it will eliminate approximately 10,000 positions worldwide by the end of next year. This measure will result in the closing of three plants – including its Brooklyn manufacturing facility in Williamsburg where the borough stands to lose 600 jobs. Statement from Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Interim President/Chief Operating Officer Mark Kessler Regarding the Closing of Pfizer's Brooklyn Facility:
“Based on our experience with Pfizer I am sure the decision to close the Brooklyn facility was not an easy one. This is a major loss for Brooklyn and its residents. The estimated 600 positions that will be lost at this site were good jobs that maintained households and supported the community. The company has been a good community partner and even in the midst of this challenging time has committed to working with the surrounding community to ease the blow of this loss. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce will be there to support Pfizer and its employees.” |
