Chamber Gears Up for 10th Building Brooklyn Awards back to Recent News home
January 26, 2010

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 2010 Building Brooklyn Awards™. This annual signature real estate industry event recognizes recently completed new and renovation construction projects that have had a positive impact on the borough's economy and quality of life.  This year's awards ceremony and cocktail reception will take place Thursday, July 15, at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

"The Chamber is excited to present the tenth anniversary edition of Building Brooklyn Awards.  For the past decade, the BBA has highlighted the best and most innovative projects, which in turn have contributed to Brooklyn's growth as an ideal place to live, work and do business.  Building Brooklyn Awards is about recognizing projects that define our borough's proper place in architecture and construction," said Carl Hum, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber.

Nominations are welcomed for built projects and will be judged on specific criteria, including design excellence and innovation, economic impact, sustainability, urban context/design, and contribution to neighborhood and "Brooklyn-ness."

Projects nominated last year that did not win an award may be re-submitted for consideration.  An independent panel of architects, city planners, economic development experts and business leaders will select award recipients.  Nomination forms are due Monday, February 22, 2010, and may be obtained by visiting http://www.buildingbrooklynawards.com/

Twelve construction projects from across the borough were feted at the 2009 ceremony and reception at Steiner Studios. The event attracted 400 attendees including real estate, design and construction professionals and government officials.  Building Brooklyn Awards also honors individuals who have made significant contributions toward enhancing the business conditions and economic climate of Brooklyn.  Last year's honorees were Richard Meier, FAIA, Richard Meier & Architects, LLP and Joanne Oplustil, executive director of CAMBA.
